Yvonne Murney, a hairdresser and Allen who is a gardener both from County Down got married in February some ten years after their first date, the couple met locally and agreed to go out together for a drink and as they say the rest is history… Allen took Yvonne to Dublin and during a dinner date in the beautiful Dublin hotel ‘The Westbury’ he both embarrassed and delighted Yvonne with a marriage proposal and a beautiful white gold princess cut diamond ring from ‘Murray & Co’.
The couple decided to get married on 16th February 2017 and booked ‘The Whistledown’ Hotel in Warrenpoint for their wedding reception Yvonne then went onto make a few appointments on different days with several bridal salon to find her wedding dress but after visiting just the second bridal salon she knew she had found ‘her’ dress and didn’t need to look anymore! Yvonne found choosing her dress a fun enjoyable experience but the experience was different when searching for the bridesmaid dresses as she was unsure of what she wanted, Yvonne then ordered very plain dresses and had local dress maker Emma Murnion alter the dresses and design capes to be worn by the bridesmaids. The flower girl dresses were bought locally in Newry along with Yvonne’s Mum’s outfit.
Yvonne had two bridesmaids her sister Sarah and Allen’s sister Debbie; Allen complimented Yvonne’s bridesmaids with two groomsmen to complete the bridal party, Allen’s cousin Matthew and Yvonne’s cousin Colm. The guys opted for blue suits and grey waistcoats, which they hired from a local groom, swear shop.
The wedding ceremony was in St, Johns Chapel in Hilltown, a small country chapel and after the ceremony the couple along with their guests travelled the relatively short distance to Warrenpoint to celebrate in the Whistledown hotel. The wedding was only a few days past Valentines Day and in keeping with the traditions of Valentines Day and wanting to ‘share the love’ Yvonne treated every lady at the reception to a single red rose and packet of love hearts!
Yvonne and Allen loved having both their families together to share in their special day, their advice to other coupes who are wedding planning is “just enjoy every minute it’s your big day, don’t stress out worrying about pleasing anyone else because that’s impossible. The wedding day just flies in from the moment you wake till your going to the chapel is so special that’s your time, the whole day is perfect enjoy it’ it’s all you have ever dreamt of and more and at the end of it you are married to your best friend… what more could u want.” The couple went on to honeymoon in Dominican Republic.
