Classic Love Story
And then suddenly, you meet that one person that makes you forget about yesterday and dream about tomorrow
Operations Manager Rachel Black from Coleraine met Teacher Darrell Coyles also from Coleraine at a house party. Darrell’s best friend Conor was having a party; Darrell met Rachel and something just clicked as he asked her to go to his formal as his date. That was 11 years ago and their lives haven’t been the same since. There have been plenty of laughs, romance and diamonds leading of course to a wonderful wedding and a very happy marriage.
On a trip to Glenariff Waterfalls on 31st August 2020 Darrell asked Rachel if they should take a photo, what she didn’t know was that the phone was actually on record and Darrell was about to propose. What a romantic setting for a beautiful proposal. Their engagement ring is a solitaire diamond which was designed by Robert Spotten Jewellery Designs in Ballycastle. Rachel said “It is perfect!”
Rachel went dress shopping in Pippa Bridal, Coleraine taking along her mum Rhonda, mother in law Ann and sister Rebecca, having always known that she would buy her dress at Pippa Bridal there was no need to look elsewhere. Describing the experience “as so special and we all agreed it was ‘the one’, I loved how intimate it was, Aimee Gaile; the owner was so accommodating I wish I could do it all over again”.
Bridesmaid dresses for all 6 bridesmaids including sister Rebecca and closest friends Sarah, Bethany, Lauren, Aimee and Sarah came from Chi Chi London, the girls all loved their dresses, much to Rachel’s relief.
Darrell got the tuxedos for him and Best Man Conor; the aforementioned Party Thrower and Matchmaker, along with best friends Andy and Michael as groomsmen from Man 1984 in Coleraine.
Chatting about planning their big day Rachel said “I honestly loved all of it, picking the dress was extra special, although the most stressful part was definitely over thinking and trying to please everyone when really everyone just wanted us to be happy”
The most beautiful wedding took place on 13th August 2022 in the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen, having their ceremony and reception there. The theme was simply a classic wedding; black tux and white roses for their 140 guests. Rachel and Darrell told us “We just wanted our pictures to be timeless so one day our future kids wouldn’t laugh at us for being ‘out of style’ haha”.
The day went amazingly, Rachel told us “We both say it was the best day of our lives, so I think it was a success. I also managed to stick to my budget but not my husbands” There was nothing too wild as a special feature, Mother Nature provided that free of charge with 28 degree heat, even causing a guest to faint in the heat, thankfully he survived. Darrell did say he would have preferred a few degrees less so he would have been cooler in his tux.
Darrell chose the song for their first dance which was First Day Of My Life by Bright Eyes. The wedding was beautiful with gorgeous flowers including blossom trees down the aisle, a stunning bridal party and glorious sunshine bouncing of the lake, what more could you ask for.
A highlight of the day for the couple was seeing each other at the aisle, they were able to keep each other calm. Before jetting off to Liberty Fabay in Turkey they gave this advice to newly engaged couples “please don’t stress, it will all be over so soon and it is incredible, just smile and really enjoy every second”
Rachel and Darrell are blissfully happy and both say “married life just feels right”.
