Sweet Music
For Belfast Couple Leighann and Sean there was no need to travel far for the ideal setting for their big day. They chose the city’s newest wedding venue The Doyen as the perfect location for both their ceremony and reception.
Leighann and Sean originally met over a decade ago in Bar Budda where Sean worked with Leighann’s sister. They dated for a while but went their separate ways when hairdresser Leighann moved to New York for a few years. As luck would have it, they met again in The Bot on a bank holiday Monday and have been together ever since.
The couple got engaged during a break at the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone. Civil servant Sean put a lot of thought and planning into the proposal.
“Sean had booked us into a joint massage room in the spa. This is where he proposed after the massage and he had all the staff involved with plenty of bubbles ready! said Leighann.
Leighann and Sean had previously visited Goldsmith’s where Leighann pointed out a ring she thought was gorgeous. Sean made a secret return to the shop later in the week to buy it and surprise Leighann when he proposed.
Leiahann wanted something a bit different for her wedding dress and considered getting it tailor made but her friend persuaded her to try some on to see what was available.
A supporter of local businesses it was only fitting that Leighann visited Forever Bridal next door to her own salon in Finaghy.
“I tried my wedding dress on I loved it,” Leighann told us, “Leondra is a complete professional. She knows everything about wedding dresses; colours, shapes and accessories. She will keep you right the whole way through.”
Leighann kept her bridal party small with sister Laura as bridesmaid and daughter Sophia as the perfect little flower girl.
Sean’s friend Michael was on hand as groomsman and the couple’s sons Caoimhgin and Ronan were very handsome page boys. They all looked dapper in suits from Red in Belfast.
The wedding took place on 19th October 2019 with 130 guests attending.
An autumnal theme was evident throughout the day with rich colours and warm lighting.
For Leighann and Sean, food and music were the main focus for the occasion. They chose four different acts to perform throughout the day.
Gerry O’Neill sang during the marriage ceremony. The String Ninjas entertained everyone at dinner, “These guys are amazing, a lot of our guests hadn’t heard them before and were blown away by them.”
The day could not have passed without a performance by Leighann’s favourite band The Disco Beards who played at the evening reception. The line up was completed by DJ Michael Quinn who had the dance floor filled all night.
“We didn’t want it to end,” the couple said.
The couple shared their first dance together as husband and wife to ‘Take My Hand’ by Picture This.
After all the planning and preparation the newlyweds are proud of how their big day went, “It was the best day ever, everyone had the best time and enjoyed every bit of it.
The wedding celebrations ended with a dream trip to Dubrovnik in Croatia. The couple loved the perfect October temperatures and the architecture.
“ It is the most amazing place in the world. It is usually really busy in summer but October was quieter and around 23 degrees everyday.”
