A Frosted Fairytale: Eimear & Gareth’s Magical Winter Wedding
Under the soft glow of twinkling lights and the crisp winter air, Eimear McHenry and Gareth McCormac exchanged vows in a celebration that perfectly blended warmth, romance, and festive cheer. Their love story, which began as childhood acquaintances before blossoming years later, culminated in a breathtaking December wedding in the heart of Kilkenny.
The Proposal: A Moment of Determination & Love
A proposal is a moment that stays etched in one’s heart forever, and Gareth’s was nothing short of memorable. Even with a broken foot, he was determined to make the moment perfect, crutching his way across the sands of Dunfanaghy Beach. With their beloved dog in tow and the wild Irish coastline as a backdrop, he got down on one knee—quite literally needing a helping hand to get back up! Eimear’s joyful ‘yes’ was followed by an emotional surprise: Gareth had arranged for her sister, best friend, and their partners to join them for a celebratory evening. As they popped champagne, the winter sky momentarily cleared, as if nature itself was blessing their love.
The Dress: A Touch of Magic
Eimear’s wedding dress was nothing short of a dream. Inspired by her love for Christie Nicole designs, she found her perfect gown—named ‘Stella’—at TWG in Warrenpoint. With delicate tulle detailing that echoed the frosted theme of their winter celebration, it was a choice that felt serendipitous, even sharing the name of her beloved dog, who was there in spirit on the day.
The Ceremony: A Heartfelt Exchange
On the 28th of December 2024, family and friends gathered at the Church of The Assumption in Gowran, Kilkenny, where a family friend, Rev. Fr. Gary Donegan, officiated the ceremony. A deeply personal touch came in the form of the wedding music, performed by Eimear’s close friend and brother-in-law, creating a beautifully intimate atmosphere.
The Reception: A Countryside Escape
For their reception, the couple chose the idyllic Mount Juliet Estate. The charm of Hunter’s Yard, with its wooden beams and open fire, provided the perfect setting for a warm and elegant winter wedding. The day was unseasonably mild, allowing for stunning outdoor photographs amidst the picturesque surroundings.
The Theme: Frosted Elegance & Subtle Sparkle
Although Eimear hadn’t consciously chosen a theme, a subtle motif emerged through starry details and shimmering accents. From star-shaped hair clips and earrings to sparkling handbags and frosted textures, a celestial elegance was woven throughout the day. Deep red tones, seen in the bridesmaids’ dresses and floral arrangements, added a striking contrast against the winter backdrop.
The Little Details: Thoughtful & Fun
Adding a touch of playfulness, Eimear and Gareth made sure their younger guests felt just as special. Personalized Christmas stockings filled with treats and kids’ cameras proved to be a hit, with little photographers capturing some of the most heartwarming candid moments of the day. A particularly treasured gift came from Gareth’s father, who, through his connections with the Kilkenny hurlers, secured two team jerseys signed by the players—personalized with their wedding date.
A Pint-Sized Mishap & Unforgettable Highlights
No wedding is without its hiccups, and Gareth’s came in the form of a pint of Guinness! A minor spill during the photoshoot meant a brief session under the hand-dryer, but any evidence of the mishap was well hidden by the time the speeches began. For both the bride and groom, their walk into the reception room, greeted by the joyous faces of their loved ones, was an unforgettable highlight.
Dancing into the Night
Kicking off the evening’s celebrations, Eimear and Gareth took to the dance floor for their first dance to Elton John’s ‘Are You Ready for Love’—a fun and upbeat choice that set the tone for an electric evening. The Bentley Boys band, complete with a saxophonist, kept the dance floor alive well into the night.
Honeymoon Adventures & New Beginnings
After a whirlwind December, the couple jetted off to the slopes of St. Anton in Austria for a ski-filled honeymoon. With plans to soak up the summer sun in Italy later in the year, their newlywed adventures are only just beginning.
Advice from the Newlyweds
Reflecting on their perfect day, Eimear and Gareth have one piece of advice for future couples: “Enjoy the process, embrace the little imperfections, and don’t compare your wedding to anyone else’s—it’s the people that make it truly special.”
As they settle into married life in their new home, with their dog Stella by their side, it’s clear that their love story is only just beginning.
