Baked With Love
The secret ingredient is always love
Daycare Manager Hollie Cuthbertson from Fivemiletown met Bakery Manager Calvin Moore from Dromore when they worked together in a shop. Hollie’s Dad set her up with a part time summer job in his friend’s shop, Calvin happened to be her manager, what a summer that turned out to be.
A couple of years later while visiting Hollie’s favourite place; White Rocks beach Calvin proposed under the arch. Hollie is a huge Christmas fan as well so what a perfect time and place to propose, 19th December 2021 on a walk along the beach. The engagement ring is a platinum pear cut diamond halo ring from Cahoons Jewellers in Cookstown. Calvin had picked it 6 months previously and had been hiding it waiting for Christmas and the perfect proposal.
Shopping for the wedding gown proved to be a bit of a challenge, Hollie knew that she always wanted a beaded princess cut dress but just couldn’t find ‘the one’ until one Saturday morning Hollie along with her mum and mother in law visited Creative Ideas Bridal in Cookstown and found a perfect dress with pearl sleeves, the dress caught Hollie’s eye and she just knew this was it, it was a done deal.
Dresses for Rebekah and Emily, Hollie’s two sisters also came from Creative Ideas Bridal and suits for Calvin and his brother Darnell along with Luke, Hollie’s brother came from SD Kells.
Hollie and Calvin really enjoyed their Saturday morning meetings with suppliers, planning their wedding and then of course all of the coffee shop dates afterwards, Hollie said “I miss the wedding Saturdays”. The most stressful part was the postal strikes a few weeks before the wedding.
The wedding was planned for exactly one year after the fabulous proposal; 19th December 2022 with a lovely service at Holy Trinity Church of Ireland in Dromore followed by a reception at Lough Erne Resort for 160 guests. A beautiful Christmas wedding with extra special touches including a stunning wedding cake baked by the groom as well as a Christmas cake, spiced shortbread and mince pies served with homemade mulled wine for the guests. They had three Christmas trees decorated in co-ordinating colours and walked down the aisle to Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. Hollie said “choosing this theme was easy, Christmas has always been our favourite time of the year, I was definitely named well being called Hollie and it was a special date being a year to the day we got engaged”.
The day went as planned thanks to Hollie being so well organised, it just went by very quickly. Hollie and Calvin were able to add some personal touches such as a sweetie cart and an amazing firework display along with their homemade goodies which the guests just loved. One slight mishap of the day was Calvin’s ring finger swelling which meant he struggled to be able to put his ring on, Hollie told us “Not noticing he cut open his knuckle and that the blood was dripping out…. And onto my dress! We didn’t realise until we sat down what had happened and then the stress set in! Thankfully our wonderful videographer had baby wipes with her and by a miracle as we signed the register got the blood rubbed out. It sure wasn’t funny at the time but thankfully we can look back at laugh at now! We even have a few plasters in our photographs to tell the tale”
A highlight of the day for both the bride and groom “Has to be that just married feeling as you walk down the aisle in front of all our friends and family” They both agreed that they wouldn’t do anything differently, they loved their wedding day, it was their dream day and they gave this advice to other couples planning their day “As cliché as it sounds enjoy every minute of the planning, even the stressful parts as your special day is over in the blink of an eye, put thought into each of your decisions, not to rush into suppliers but to make sure they match your criteria”
Hollie and Calvin are jetting off to Dubai and The Maldives later this year and are finding married life just fabulous, saying “Married life is great, spending each day with your best friend and getting used to the titles of husband and wife”.
