A Love Story That Spanned Continents: Shauna & Ruairi’s Magical Wedding
Some love stories begin with grand gestures, while others unfold naturally, like a slow-burning romance that grows stronger over time. For Shauna McManus and Ruairi McGrade, their journey from mutual friends to soulmates led them across the world—from their hometowns in Fermanagh to the stunning beaches of Sydney, where Ruairi got down on one knee and asked Shauna to spend forever with him.
A Sunrise Proposal in Sydney
After eight years together, Ruairi chose the breathtaking Maroubra Beach, a place they had both come to love during their time living in Australia, for his heartfelt proposal. As the sun rose over the ocean in July 2023, he popped the question, making for an unforgettable moment of pure romance. Later that evening, the celebrations continued with a stay at the luxurious Shangri-La in Sydney. Having already gone ring shopping earlier that year, Shauna had picked out her dream ring—a timeless gold band with an elegant emerald-cut diamond—making the proposal all the more perfect.
Bridal Elegance and a Minimalist Theme
When it came time to plan their wedding, Shauna had a clear vision: a celebration that was both elegant and minimalistic, with a touch of festive charm. Her dress, sourced from Indie Grace Bridal (Moira Hughes), was exactly what she had envisioned—simple, sophisticated, and timeless. Accompanied by her three sisters, Danielle, Aimee Rose, and Caitlin, she found the experience truly special.
The bridesmaids wore stunning dresses from the Australian brand Shona Joy, adding a modern and effortless touch to the bridal party. Ruairi and his groomsmen, Michael, Ciaran, and Matthew, looked sharp in suits from S.D Kells Enniskillen, completing the classic yet contemporary wedding aesthetic.
A Magical Winter Wedding in Ireland
On December 18, 2024, Shauna and Ruairi exchanged vows in the beautiful St. Mary’s Church, Brookeborough. Their ceremony, made even more personal by the help of family and friends, was a testament to the love and support that surrounded them. With Christmas just around the corner, the church already had a festive glow, allowing them to enhance the ambiance with lilies, lanterns, and a beautifully decorated mirror at the entrance.
The reception at Corick House and Spa in Clogher, Tyrone, was a joyful continuation of their love story. With 120 guests in attendance, the evening was filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and endless dancing. Foregoing a traditional band, they opted for a DJ—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the night. The dance floor was packed, and a standout moment came when their guests surrounded them, belting out From Now On from The Greatest Showman—a memory forever captured on video and cherished in their hearts.
A Celebration of Love, Laughter, and Family
One of the biggest joys of their wedding day was the presence of loved ones, especially given their time living abroad. “When you live away, you appreciate family so much and how much they do for you,” Shauna shared. For both the bride and groom, a major highlight was Ciaran’s speech—an emotional and humorous tribute that had everyone laughing and tearing up in equal measure.
A Parisian Escape & Island Bliss
Following the wedding, the newlyweds set off on their honeymoon, beginning with a romantic few days in Paris before returning to Australia for a sun-soaked getaway on Hamilton Island.
Advice from the Newlyweds
Looking back on their wedding, Shauna and Ruairi wouldn’t change a thing. Their advice to future couples? “Just enjoy it. It’s your day, and it goes so quickly. Take time to be with your family and friends, and don’t forget to steal a few moments together amidst the celebrations.”
For Shauna and Ruairi, married life hasn’t changed much—except for the deeper bond they now share as husband and wife. Their wedding was a beautiful reminder that love isn’t just about the grand gestures, but also the simple, joy-filled moments spent with the people who matter most.
