A Civil Love Story
Meeting you was like listening to a song for the first time and knowing it would be my favourite
Robyn Fisher a Civil Servant from Dromore met David Perry from Belfast at work, David worked in the Press Office for the Department of Finance and Robyn worked in the Private Office. They met briefly while working in adjacent offices, then Robyn changed job and ended up sitting beside David, they chatted about their families especially their grandparents and their love of watching Only Fools and Horses. Romance didn’t blossom until David moved jobs to another department, they sent a few emails and then arranged to meet up, Robyn is adamant that David asked her out for drinks and David is adamant it’s the other way about. Whoever asked first doesn’t really matter all that matters is that it led to romance and love and also a fabulous wedding.
The proposal happened on a normal Friday night in December 2018, after finishing work Robyn and her daughter Lilly travelled over to David’s house to stay for the weekend. Robyn had a bad cold so David prepared a bath for her to relax and cooked a lovely meal for them. David and Lilly came upstairs after Robyn got of the bath, he asked her to close her eyes, when Robyn opened her eyes David was down on one knee with a beautiful ring, of course Robyn said yes and was delighted that Lilly was involved in the proposal. A few months before the proposal Robyn and David were in Liverpool for a weekend when during lunch David suggested going to look at a ring in Ernest Jones that Robyn had liked online, loving the simplicity of the simple emerald cut diamond and its uniqueness. A wedding was planned for June 2020 and then a further 3 dates were planned before they were finally able to say ‘I do’ on 12 August 2022. The wedding was booked in Titanic Hotel for 80 guests with an elegant theme, keeping it simple so as not to distract from the lighting and the beauty of the building.
Robyn got her gown from Elody Bridal in Newry, after hearing good reports about the store she knew it was the place to go too so she booked an appointment with her mum. Robyn told us “My mum seen my dress in the front window and thought it was beautiful, it was the last dress I tried on and I knew it was the one when I put it on”. Finding the experience fantastic Robyn said “the staff were helpful and lovely and I surprised myself as all the dresses I had liked were ballroom and I ended up picking a fitted dress which I fell in love with”. Dresses for childhood friend and Maid of Honour Laura along with friends Jayne and Zara and David’s sister Nadeen came from Wed2Be in Belfast. Lilly’s dress came from online shop Lilly & Bo. Suits for David and his groomsmen including cousin and best friend John, brother Thomas, nephew Jake and Robyn’s brother Ross came from Freddie Hatchett in Belfast. David’s friend James was meant to be part of the bridal party but couldn’t attend the wedding due to ill health.
Robyn and David said “the best part of planning our wedding was the food tasting, David and I love our food and we were blown away with our tasting at the Titanic, it made the build up to the wedding even more exciting knowing our guests would be treated to amazing food”. The most stressful part was having to postpone the wedding so many times and not knowing if it was going to happen, after the last time it was postponed Robyn found out she was pregnant with their son Leo, so they postponed for a year and hoped that all restrictions would be lifted and they could enjoy their day with an extra special guest attending.
The wedding was a fantastic day with glorious weather, they were able to thoroughly enjoy their day with family and friends, they both said they would love to go back and have their day all over again. The budget was stretched a little but their suppliers were fantastic and made having to rearrange so many times so easy. The food lovers had crisp sandwiches made up for their guests who were staying over. The whole day from start to finish was wonderful, a day to remember for a lifetime.
A highlight of their day was described by Robyn as “being able to finally marry my best friend and also having both our kids there was so special” and by David “I would say exactly what Robyn said, but she got in before me! Obviously, seeing Robyn for the first time coming down the aisle, she was stunning. It’s a dream to finally call Robyn my wife and feel blessed to have our two beautiful children with us. Also, getting through the speeches, I was so nervous and relived to get that over me” They also said they wouldn’t do anything differently apart from not stressing about the smaller details and enjoy the preparation and planning more.
Before heading off on a family holiday to Lanzarote instead of their once in a lifetime holiday to Dominican Republic which was changed as they didn’t want to leave their children for so long, so they all went away including David’s sister Nadeen and Robyn’s brother Ross, the couple gave this advice to other couple’s planning their own wedding’s “enjoy every part from the planning to the actual day as it all goes so fast, months or in our case years of planning and the day goes very quickly so try and take it all in”.
Finding married life busy with work and the children but also has the added bonus of it now being official.
