Rachel and Benjamin first met at university in Glasgow. They were friends first before they started dating in the second semester.
After two and a half years together, one evening in Benjamin’s home, he presented Rachel with a ring box and a huge balloon popped up with, ‘Will you marry me, Rachel?’ printed on it – he then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The ring was from John Macintyre’s in Glasgow, a beautiful pear shaped diamond with a halo of diamonds.
Rachel was now on the hunt for her perfect wedding dress, she visited the Wedding Centre in Randalstown and was delighted to find ‘the one’. Rachel was not sure what style of dress she would suit but knew what styles she didn’t want. Rachel had a fabulous day shopping at the Wedding Centre and highly recommends the salon.
Rachel’s maid of honour was Ellen, her best friend. Her bridesmaids were Megan, Benjamin’s sister and Lauren who was her flat mate throughout her time at university.
Benjamin’s best man was his brother Jordan. Rachels brother Andrew and Dylan, Benjamin’s best friend were the groomsmen. The ushers were Tom, Rachels eldest childhood friend and Joe who was Benjamin’s friend from school.
The groom and his supporting men all wore Kilts from Kenny’s Kilts in Cumnock, Scotland.
The wedding day took place on 13th October 2021 with the wedding ceremony at Kilbride Presbyterian Church followed with the reception at Ballygally Castle Hotel.
They had no set theme, although their table plan was Disney themed and the bride wore Disney ‘Winnie the Pooh’ wedding shoes that she hand painted!
The couple’s highlight of the day was being able to sing and dance with their family and friends for the full night after not seeing many of them in the previous year due to the pandemic. The couple had a sparkler exit at the end of their wedding celebrations.
Rachel and Benjamin’s advice for other couples planning their wedding is ‘Plan it the way you want it to be and take into account your parents views but go with what you want.’
