Lisa Daly, a 30-year-old nursing auxiliary from Newry, and Kevin Cosgrave, 33, an agricultural contractor from Katesbridge, met when they were teenagers working in the Bank Bar in Newry, and returned many years later to hold their wedding reception! The couple were friends for a number of years, but got together in 2012. “We quickly realised it was love and never looked back,” said Lisa. They got engaged on Lisa’s birthday, four and a half years later. “We were at the Killyhelvin Hotel in Fermanagh, and Kevin took me completely by surprise,” Lisa said. The engagement ring, an 18 ct white gold diamond square, was from Goldsmiths, while the couple’s wedding bands were from Ernest Jones.
Lisa chose her wedding dress at Perfect Day, in Lurgan. “I wanted something timeless but modern,” she said. “The experience was amazing.” Bridesmaids Gemma Heaney, a cousin of the groom, and Lisa’s best friend Roisin Cull looked beautiful in dresses also bought in Perfect Day. Flower girl Clara, the couple’s daughter, had her lovely dress specially made for her.
The groom’s party was made up of Kevin’s brother Joe Cosgrave, and his cousin, Mick Doyle. They wore outfits from Red Groomswear, Belfast.
Lisa and Kevin said they loved every part of planning their big day. “We gave ourselves 12 months and had a very clear vision on every aspect of the day. Honestly, there was very little stressing done, but if I had to pick I was say the seating plan was a little tricky,” said Lisa.
The couple married in St Peter and Paul’s Church in Bessbrook, on November 23 2018. They entertained 120 guests at a reception in the place they had first met – the Bank Bar in Newry. The theme of the day was Winter Glam, and this was reflected in many ways, including the flowers and the room décor. “We chose this because we wanted the day to be timeless, but also because of the time of the year,” said Lisa. The couple say the day had been ‘unreal,’ with almost no mishaps! “I slept in the morning of the wedding along with the girls,” said Lisa. “We laughed at how it happened, but it started off a very relaxed morning. The ongoing joke was that bridesmaid Gemma, who was 36 weeks pregnant, would go into labour on the day. Thankfully she didn’t, but she now has a beautiful baby boy.”
Lisa recalls the highlight of her day. “It’s hard to think of a particularly moment, but I would have to say walking up the aisle with our gorgeous three-year-old daughter alongside me, giving me away to her daddy. It was a real moment for both her and me and then for the three of us as a family as she stayed right beside me throughout the whole Mass.” Kevin agrees: “I loved the whole day but the moment I saw Lisa and Clara coming towards me in the Chapel will be a favourite memory forever. Any nerves I had just disappeared,” he said.
The couple’s first dance at Mr and Mrs was to Ellie Goulding’s Love me like you do.They say other couples planning a wedding should not be afraid to do something different. “Really put your stamp on your day,” they said. “The day itself goes by so fast so make sure to take a few wee moments for you both to connect. “And don’t stress! There is really no need, put your faith in your suppliers and let them do what they do best.”
Lisa and Kevin went to New York and Las Vegas for their honeymoon. “The Christmas lights and atmosphere in New York were amazing, and Las Vegas was luxurious and great fun,” they said. “We received a complimentary upgrade to the honeymoon suite in the Bellagio where we stayed, which was first class.”
The couple say married life is ‘lovely.’ “We had our daughter before we married, so it is lovely to now share the same home and feel more connected to each other as Mr and Mrs,” they said.
