Love’s Feathered Journey
“Love is the poetry of the senses.”
Honoré de Balzac
In the crowds of Kelly’s in Portrush, amidst laughter and music, destiny wove its magical thread, bringing Laura McConnell and Darren Worton together during their final year of university.
Laura McConnell a Marketing Manager from Tamlaght and Darren Worton a Data Security Analyst from Markethill knew from the moment they met that something wonderful was about to happen and their chance encounter that night would blossom into a love as vibrant and enduring as the Irish countryside they call home
Fast forward to a crisp December day in 2021 in Central Park, where Darren’s heart brimmed with courage as he knelt before Laura and with a whispered declaration of love and a ring as brilliant as her smile, their journey towards forever began. The couple were ecstatic when some very friendly Americans stopped and managed to capture the very romantic moment for them.
The ring was a masterpiece from Jack Murphy Jewellers. Its golden band embraced a pear-cut diamond, symbolizing their unique connection, it was perfect just like their wedding day.
Laura tried on a few dresses at Jill Jones Bridal, accompanied by her mum and bridesmaids, not quite able to decide on one dress until, as Laura stood with a stunning gown on a single white feather descended, sealing her fate with the dress that spoke to her soul.
“The experience was amazing, there was lots of laughter and happy tears, the only negative experience is the pressure that some brides put on themselves to look a certain way and at times it was disheartening that certain sample sizes didn’t fit, or a style I loved didn’t suit my body shape, and even though there is a lot of pressure put on brides to lose weight etc before their big day, I made sure that if I had to get married there and then, that I would be comfortable in the dress I chose. As Jill, at Jill Jones Bridal told me, you alter a dress to fit you, you don’t alter yourself to fit a dress” Laura told us.
Meanwhile, the bridesmaids, including cousin Lesley and friends Holly, Aoibheann, and Zoe, adorned themselves in dresses from JJ’s House, radiating elegance and joy. The flower girls in dresses from Next, added a special touch to their day.
Darren and his groomsmen and friends Philip, Jonathan, Christy, and Glen, suited up in style courtesy of Freddie Hatchet.
The days leading up to the wedding were a whirlwind of excitement and anticipation, with Laura pouring her heart into every detail, from the sweetie cart to the personalised signage.
Seven years of shared laughter, dreams, and countless memories culminated in a joyous celebration on the 12th of October 2023, surrounded by loved ones at the Tullyglass Hotel, Laura and Darren exchanged vows in front of their 126 guests, having a simplistic theme which will stand the test of time, keeping to neutral colours with greens and whites they had an absolutely beautiful wedding that will be talked about for years to come.
As the evening unfolded, guests revelled in the celebration, savouring every moment of Aine O’Hagan’s live illustrations and the heartfelt speeches that filled the air, they danced their first dance as Mr & Mrs to the melody of James Morrison’s “I Won’t Let You Go.”
Reflecting on their journey, Laura and Darren found solace in the quiet moments they managed to share after their meal. Though the journey was not without its challenges, they embraced each hurdle with grace and resilience, emerging stronger and more deeply in love than ever before.
Now, as they embark on a new chapter as Mr and Mrs Worton, Laura and Darren offer sage advice to couples embarking on their own journey of love: “Have a clear vision of what you want for your wedding, do your research and book your suppliers early! And, don’t put pressure on yourself to have everything perfect, just try and relax and enjoy all the fabulous experiences to come”
And as they look ahead to sun-kissed days in Mallorca, they do so with hearts full of gratitude for the love that continues to light their way. For Laura and Darren, the journey is just beginning, a testament to the enduring power of love’s feathered touch.
