A romantic Valentine’s Day proposal at their favourite venue led to an April wedding for Co Tyrone couple Laura and Robert

Laura McGirr and Robert McLean were together for eight years before their wedding in All Saints’ Church, Ballymena, on April 27.
Laura, 25, a hairdresser from Fintona, and Robert, also 25, a mechanic from Omagh, then entertained 130 guests at a reception at the Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort.

The couple, who were both students at South West College, met on a night out. They got engaged on St Valentine’s Day, February 14 2018, at the Galgorm, which Laura says is their favourite place. Her ring is from D&K the Jewellers in Cookstown.

Laura’s dress came from La Mariée, Newry. “It was an amazing experience. The staff at La Mariée couldn’t do enough,” she said.
She had two bridesmaids, her best friend Shannon Northern and her sister Melissa Bolton.

Groomsmen were Robert’s best friends Aaron Davis and Corey Leored, and they wore outfits from SD Kells.
Laura said designing her wedding dress had been the best part of the build up to the wedding, while planning the invites had been the most stressful part.

Laura and Robert opted for a ‘classic and timeless’ theme for their wedding. A quirky feature was ice cream from McGarry’s, enjoyed by all the guests.
The couple’s first dance was to Randy Travis Forever and ever. Amen
Reflecting on the highlight of the day, Laura said: “Walking into our pre-drink reception was a real highlight for myself and Robert. It was unbelievable seeing everyone we care so much about there for us.”
After the wedding, Laura and Robert went on a mini moon to Tenerife for a week, and they are now planning are honeymoon to Dubai followed by a cruise for 10 days.
“Married life is very much the same for us as we were together for eight years and lived together for nearly two years before our wedding, but it’s lovely being husband and wife,” the couple said.
