Love Is Never A Waste
Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.
Loretta Young
Carole Cummins a Waste Contract Manager from Mountjoy in Omagh met Waste Operative Adrian (Aidie) Rogan from Drumaness at work in 2003. Carole started working in the company on the Graduate Placement Programme in 2002, working very hard and with lots of enthusiasm, that is until Aidie started and Carole then found that her attention was drawn to a fantastic man from Drumaness. Knowing the way to Carole’s heart was through sausage baps every day without fail Aidie would offer to get one for her, after a while she knew that it wasn’t just the sausage baps that Carole liked, even going home to her housemates and acting like a love sick puppy, Aidie knew he found someone very special which led to their very first, special kiss. After 16 years of love, laughs and holidays the best day of Carole’s life arrived when Aidie and Carole purchased a stunning engagement ring while on holiday in Thailand, after spending the day swimming with elephants at the Sanctuary, Carole’s and Aidie’s love was sealed with a trip to jewellery store, their connection was definitely full of sparks as leaving the store a fireworks display started popping in the sky. I mean, you couldn’t ask for anything more, until off course Aidie surprised Carole by dropping to one knee and proposing on Christmas Day taking Carole completely by surprise after which they spent the holidays celebrating with family and friends.
Carole wore her mother’s wedding dress which was first worn in 1978 and with the help of Donna O’Hare from Sew Handy the dress was transformed into a beautiful gown, Carole said that Donna was amazing and is a lady of many talents “every visit to Donna’s was absolutely brilliant, she is so good and the fun we had along the way was just brilliant”
Bridesmaid dresses for best friends Pamela Jordan and Sinead Donnelly were bought online, originally Carole’s friend Emma was due to be a bridesmaid but couldn’t get back from Hong Kong due to the pandemic so Sinead stood in. Standing for Aidie were Jessica Rogan and Kim Harris, Jessica is Aidie’s only daughter and Kim is a best friend to the couple. Going to see Aaron Waring from SD Kells for their suits, he kitted them out in some beautiful suits.
The best part of planning their big day was working with all of the amazing people who made their day just wonderful. The only stressful part was compiling their very informative order of service which included details on every single guest at the wedding, having 154 guests that would have been a whole lot of work. The couple had to cancel their first wedding date due to Aidie requiring emergency heart surgery 3 weeks before their date, thankfully Aidie recovered from the surgery well and they celebrated their non wedding day with a glass of bubbly in the hospital. Setting a new date for 5th March 2022 for their waste themed wedding at The Manor House Hotel in Enniskillen, as both of the bride and groom work in the waste industry they thought it would be a fun way to intertwine their love and work life.
Having flowers arranged in wheelie bins, table centre pieces were kitchen caddies filled with goodies and a pre-worn wedding dress certainly showed their flair for upcycling.
Carole said “the day was fabulous, it was just a brilliant day, best day of my life, honestly any bride to be reading this article you are one lucky girl getting to experience this day, it is just so amazing”.
Some specials moments made their day unique such as their first dance which had to be altered slightly due to Aidie’s heart condition and Carole shouting yes, pumping her fist and running down the aisle showing off her wedding ring after saying “I do”.
A highlight for Aidie was “seeing Carole walk down the aisle” and Carole said she had so many highlights “walking up the aisle, when they said we are now man and wife, our speeches as these were done with music, our first dance and me at the end of the night on stage, dance floor packed as if I was at my own concert”. The couple agreed that their day was amazing and they wouldn’t change a thing.
Advice they want to give future bride’s and groom’s is “do not stress, have fun along the entire journey” Before heading off on their minimoon to Tenerife they agreed that married life is amazing “it is just so good”, they also have a main honeymoon planned to Nashville next year.
