A chance meeting in Café Vaudeville in Belfast brought together Andrea and Jonathan, and the couple celebrated their wedding day in February 2017. Just eighteen months earlier Jonathan planned for the perfect proposal on the London Eye but it didn’t work out that way when his nerves got the better of him.
Andrea said, “We got engaged on the 2nd October 2015 in London.
“Jonny had been planning it for some time which I was totally unaware of. We were staying in a lovely boutique hotel and we had just been for drinks on a roof top bar & decided that we would go back to the hotel to get changed to go and see the London eye.
“That is where Jonny had planned to propose but the nerves got the better of him and he could not wait any longer so when I turned around he was on his knee in the hotel room! We then spent the evening in London’s very trendy Ice bar.
“Jonny had picked a keepsake ring to propose with, which I will always cherish as it holds so many memories, and when we returned to Northern Ireland I got my gorgeous ring in Murray & Co in Belfast.”
With a big emphasis on family – the bridal party had their sisters and brothers, as well as their nieces and nephews – Andrea really enjoyed all those special moments with everyone invited to the big day.
“There are so many special memories and it has brought both our families closer together.”
Andrea sourced her perfect dress in Pianta Bridal in Ballynahinch, which is where is also found the bridesmaid and flowergirl dresses.
“The two ladies in Pianta Bridal, Lorriane and Paula, were just amazing. They made the experience truly magical for all of us and we were all made to feel so special which was so important for me as I wanted it to be everyone’s day.”
And instead of hiring the men’s suits the couple treated the groomsmen to a new Herbie Frogg suit each.
The couple said ‘I do’ at Christ the King Chapel Drumaness with a reception at La Mon Country Hotel.
Andrea said, “If Jonny is reading this then we stuck to a budget! But the day was just amazing, everything was perfect from start to finish. And our highlight was becoming husband and wife.
“I wanted our day to reflect us, which is very caring, loving and fun people, and that is how we wanted everyone to feel. The day just wasn’t about us, it was about sharing it with the most important people in our lives.”
Adding a special touch the couple had a singing waiter camouflaged before dinner, “He was fab!
“My 7-year-old niece also surprised us with some Irish dancing and her sister (my bridesmaid) danced along with her dance school. It was truly magical, and my niece Rebecca just won third in the world for Irish Dancing.”
The couple are now reflecting back on their ‘perfect day’ and advise other couples to “enjoy it as much as you can as it goes by so quickly.”
And with a house buy on the cards the couple didn’t go on honeymoon – “Married life is great – we have just moved in to our new home, and we are both very excited for the next chapter making new memories as husband & wife.”
