Thanks to the sun, we’re full of the joys of spring and we think it’s the perfect time to share Ruth and David’s outdoor spring wedding at Hugh McCanns in Newcastle. With only 14 guests their laid-back do was everything they could ever have dreamt off.
Ruth and David met when they wee teenagers and immediately became inseparable. Despite David’s shy nature, the couple’s friendship quickly turned into romance and they became engaged just one year after meeting. “We were young at the time with David in his first job so he had to save to buy the ring for me. My ring means so much to me because of this. At the time because we were so young people didn’t really take our engagement very seriously but we’ve proved them wrong,” said Ruth.
The couple were engaged for over ten years and in that time had a great time socialising with friends, heading off on lovely holidays and buying their first home together but in 2011 with their friends starting to get married they decided it was time to think about it. They started looking for venues in 2014 and happened upon a bridal fayre in Hugh McCanns. “It must have been fate. They had a bridal fayre taking place and as soon as we walked in we both got a feeling and knew we didn’t need to look any further, it was perfect. An added bonus was that we didn’t have to compromise on what we wanted and Hugh McCann’s were more than happy to work with us to deliver our vision. We confirmed our date later that week,” added Ruth.
With their wedding booked for April the following year, Ruth and David got down to the serious business of planning their perfect wedding. They agreed they wanted a small, intimate ceremony with the rest of their guests joining later in the day for their evening reception.
“To us our day really was perfect. The weather was fantastic with our ceremony able to take place outside and our guests able to sit outside in the terraced balcony area enjoying the view of the Mournes. David’s childhood teddy “Super Ted” made an appearance during the best man’s speech which was a funny moment and got a few laughs from everyone. It was a sad occasion as well as my father passed away two years ago. However his memory was well and truly alive throughout the day and we decided to make a donation in his memory to Friends of the Cancer Centre who provided us with badges and trolley tokens for favours,” aded Ruth.
Ruth and David went to Orlando, Florida for five nights, followed by a Caribbean Cruise to complete their celebrations.
