Digital Marketing Executive Caron Devlin from Armagh met Fisherman James Donnelly from Derrytrasna in local pub McKenna’s on a night out over 8 years ago. Falling in love with Caron and realising he had made the catch of his life, James proposed in the most romantic way on Friday 13th November 2020 at Finn Lough, Enniskillen. Choosing a stunning setting to have a picnic round a campfire at sundown James proposed with a gorgeous pear drop shaped diamond ring from Jack Murphy’s Jewellers in Newry.
Caron had wanted to purchase her gown from Verona Bridal for some time after following them on social media and looking at all of their beautiful gowns. Wanting a plain dress Caron had thought it would be an easy decision to make, she soon found that it really wasn’t as easy as she thought. Caron said “I had a brilliant experience at Verona Bridal, the staff were very patient with me as I struggled to choose between 3 dresses and ended up coming out with the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted”. Caron bought her bridesmaid dresses for sister Maria, sister-in-law Shannon and friends Laura and Joanne from Creative Ideas along with a dress from Next for their flowergirl.
James and his groomsmen including his brothers Robert and Mark and brothers-in-law David and James got their suits from Freddie Hatchett. The couple said they really enjoyed shopping for dresses and suits, making a big day out of it. They did however find not being able to attend wedding fairs or being able to look at venues stressful, planning a wedding is a lot of work and planning a wedding during covid restrictions made it even more so, but plan a wedding they did and what a beautiful wedding it was.
Setting a date for 13th August 2022 they booked St Patricks Cathedral in Armagh for their wedding mass and the Manor House in Enniskillen for their reception, 150 guests attended the wedding which had a theme of neutral tones and pampas grass, this was incorporated into the wedding through their invites, pillars, flower hoop, flowers, welcome signs and table settings. Caron chose this help with some help and inspiration from Pinterest and said “It was a beautiful day and it went perfectly, we got the hottest day of the year so the boys were roasted in their suits” Caron and James said they didn’t exactly stick to their budget but they did have some amazing features such as a singer and drinks reception along with a stunning flower drop for a back drop for photos and a candy cart. Caron and James enjoyed their first dance as man and wife to Luke Combs ~ Beautiful Crazy. The only mishap was the wedding car breaking down the night before the wedding so they weren’t able to get their chosen car but the company did replace it with another equally lovely car.
The highlight of the day for both Caron and James was in their own words “The excitement of meeting each other at the top of the aisle was the best feeling and the speeches at our wedding were fantastic. Everyone had sore sides at the end of them” Caron also said that if they were to do it again they would have had mass an hour earlier so there was less of a rush for photos.
Before jetting off on the honeymoon of a lifetime to Cancun, Mexico staying for 2 weeks at the Royalton Chic which they would highly recommend, Caron and James gave this advice to couples planning their big day “Do what makes you happy and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing”
Caron and James are now enjoying married life and focusing on their next project, building their forever home.
