Good evening brides-to-be we hope you’ve had the chance to enjoy some of that beautiful sun we’ve been having today! Tonight we are sharing the very beautiful Lough Erne Resort wedding of Ally and Rory. Captured in all its vintage glory by Geoff Telford Photography, it’s a real pretty celebration.
Ally and Rory met through Rory’s cousin, Katie who was a friend of Ally’s.
“We were at a meeting in Vineyard where we first met and my first words to him where “oh, you’ve such a lovely smile, I’m going to call you smiler” (he was a very quiet, shy boy) but to my surprise he asked for my number and pursued me with his ‘gentlemanliness’ and charm. Very quickly we were head over heels for each other (although I didn’t like to admit or show that for a long time) but he broke me down and what can I say – the rest is history!” explained Ally.
The couple decided to choose an engagement ring whilst Ally was in the middle of her second year at university with the idea of Rory popping the question in the future. Although Ally knew the ring was chosen she still got a big surprise when Rory popped the question in the Samson Suite at Malmaison Hotel. After lots of cryptic directions she had found herself in the suite with Rory on one knee and the ring in his hand!
“When I entered the suite Rory said ‘Alison McStay, will you marry me?’ With all the shock and laughing I forgot to answer and he said, ‘well, will you?!’ I said ‘yes, of course of course!’ he put the ring on and we had our first kiss as an engaged couple. I then made him get down on one knee to propose again because I felt like I had missed the moment with all the laughing and shock! He laughed and did it again (because he’s just wonderfully patient like that) and there it was…we were engaged to be wed!” said Ally.
Ally had pretty clear ideas of how she wanted her wedding day to be as she had been dreaming about it for a long time and had a secret Pinterest board! After deciding on the stunning location of Lough Erne Resort for their reception and Geoff Telford as their photographer the plans quickly came together with a beautiful colour scheme of ivory, lemon, peach and gold.
Ally’s wedding gown was found in La Boda Bridal in Banbridge;
“The long fitted Pronovias gown was a simple statement with its beautiful brocade material which I adored as I’m a bit of an old school vintage queen. When I brought my gran to see it she said it was the same material her wedding dress was in which was cool. This also meant I could get the long veil with laced edges that covered my face I’d always wanted this type of veil,” explained Ally.
“Our day was amazing. For me – walking down the aisle to marry the love of my life was my highlight and Rory agrees, with canon in D playing with the irish instruments he’d picked! A truly magical moment for us both, the wedding video shows how happy we really were that whole day….and now it’s the ever after with all the lumps and bumps along with way!” added Ally.
Ally’s Advice
Plan well ahead and get whatever you can done so coming up to the wedding is as stress free as possible. Good organisation for the planning and budget is really important and learn when to draw the line and say no – but it’s hopefully only the one day you’ll get to be a bride so make a day to remember and save to pay for those wee extras you’d love to make it special. To the groom, plan your speech from the heart and be sure to focus on your beautiful bride. We definitely recommend spending a bit extra on a videographer – we are so glad we went for John who also had a drone because we literally have the whole day on camera which is just brilliant because you get to see all the things you missed on the day and all the guests etc – when the days over it’s over so you need good quality memories!! Oh – and also wedding gift lists are great and people really appreciate them so they know what to buy!
