Love in the Aisles
“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.” – Nicholas Sparks
Alex, a Retail Manager at Asda, and John, a Retail Manager at Lidl, first crossed paths when John’s company was contracted to remodel Alex’s store. What started as a professional collaboration quickly turned into a deep connection, with Alex becoming affectionately known as John’s “work wife.” After twelve weeks of working side by side, John gathered the courage to ask Alex for her number, setting the stage for a beautiful romance.
John’s initial plan was to propose somewhere sun-kissed and romantic, but fate had a different idea. Instead, the couple found themselves in a cosy caravan in Portrush, enjoying the unexpected yet delightful brilliance of the weather. One memorable day, they decided to drive to Magheracross viewpoint to snap some photos. As Alex captured the stunning views, John knelt down behind her, waiting with bated breath for what seemed like an eternity. When she finally turned around, her surprise quickly turned into joy as John asked the life-changing question against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean’s majestic cliffs.
A wedding was planned for 8th June 2024 in Corick House, were 120 guests witnessed a stunning rendition of Disney’s “Kiss The Girl” from the Little Mermaid, sang by their niece Bekky while Alex walked down the aisle.
For Alex, finding the perfect wedding dress was a moment of perfection. Browsing online, she stumbled upon a dress on No8’s Facebook page and instantly knew it was the one. Without hesitation, she booked an appointment, and trying it on only confirmed her intuition. It was her dress – the dress that made her feel like a bride, ready to walk down the aisle towards her love.
Alex’s bridal party was a vision of beauty and elegance. She chose her bridesmaids’ dresses from She’s Fabulous, allowing her bridesmaids the freedom to choose their style within her desired colour scheme. Her five bridesmaids included her sister Michelle Bridge (Maid of Honour), sisters Kirsty Hutchison and Lyndsey Stewart, John’s sister Emily Liggett, and her niece Katy Hutchison. The two adorable flower girls, Imogen Stewart (niece) and Mary Jenkins (John’s cousin), wore charming dresses from Next, adding an extra touch of sweetness to the ceremony.
John and his groomsmen, along with his groom’s lady, were impeccably dressed in outfits from Freddie Hatchet Belfast. His entourage consisted of his brother Niall Moore (Best Man), brothers Ben Liggett and Paul Moore, cousin Matthew Coyle, and his cousin Lauren Moore, who stood out as his groom’s lady.
For Alex, the most enjoyable aspect of wedding planning was the time spent with her sisters. They took the reins, making the experience not only stress-free but filled with laughter and bonding moments. It was a family affair, with her sisters’ support and creativity shining through every detail of the wedding.
The wedding day dawned with excitement and joy filling the air. Guests gathered, eager to witness the union of two souls destined for each other. The venue was adorned with elegant decorations, reflecting Alex and John’s journey together – simple yet profound. The ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, with vows that spoke of their unwavering love and commitment. Every word and every look, even the look of panic when John thought he had lost the rings; was a testament to their journey – from co-workers to soulmates.
Following the ceremony, the reception was a lively affair, filled with laughter and dancing with friends and family joining in the celebrations, making it a night to remember.
Alex and John’s wedding was the culmination of a love story that began in the aisles of a store and blossomed into a lifetime commitment. Their journey reminds us that love can be found in the most unexpected places, and when nurtured, it grows into something truly magical. Before leaving on the honeymoon of a lifetime they gave this advice to other newly engaged couples “Don’t let it overwhelm you, everything will fall into place. Try and enjoy every minute of the planning as it will be over before you know it”
The happy couple are enjoying married life saying “It’s been a wonderful journey so far. We are enjoying each other’s company and cannot wait to see what life has in store for us”
