Good afternoon brides-to-be! We hope Storm Rachel isn’t causing you too many problems, it’s horrible out there! We suggest you grab a cuppa and have a read of Aisling and Martin’s nautical themed wedding at Redcastle Hotel & Spa, with photography by Catherine MacKenzie, it’s a real beauty.
The L’derry couple met when two of their friends dated each other, and Aisling knew from the very beginning they would be together for life.
In February 2013 Martin planned a very unique and special proposal;
“Martin had every detail planned very well and was able to keep the surprise. One Tuesday he asked me to climb mount Errigal that Saturday (we pass this mountain at least 30 times a year going from Derry to Carrickfinn and back, I always said I was going to climb it that year every time we passed). I accepted the challenge, excited to finally climb thinking nothing of it at all. Saturday 2nd February 2013 arrived and we climbed mount Errigal, at the bottom I fell into a bog and I think at this point Martin was going to give up on me! We proceeded and at the top Martin got down on one knee and popped the question, it was the most beautiful day and I remember it so well. The ring was absolutely stunning diamonds on the band then a solitaire diamond in the middle, I love it,” explained Aisling.
The couple immediately knew they wanted to include a nautical theme to their day, and with the help of family and friends planning went smoothly.
“I loved putting all the little details together, it was lots of fun. We choose a nautical theme because Martin and I love Donegal, we holiday there most weekends and in the summer. The water is where we spend most of our time when there so I choose royal blue for my colour as I just loved it, I also thought it matched my theme very well,” added Aisling.
On her wedding day Aisling wore a stunning Pronovias gown that she had purchased from McElhinneys Bridal Rooms in Ballybofey.
“On the morning of the wedding everything was going to plan and very calm, until the last hour we were trying to get all our stuff into the cars! Myself and the bridesmaids were in our dresses and shoes so couldn’t do very much, except give orders! My son who is five fell twice outside and cut his knee but lucky enough his suit was undamaged, other than that everything went great,” said Aisling.
“The day went absolutely amazing, we couldn’t have faulted it at all. My highlight was walking down the aisle to meet my new husband, it was the best moment, the rest just went by so quick. The Redcastle Hotel were so easy to deal with and everything was planned very well,” added Aisling.
The couple completed their celebrations with a honeymoon at the Moon Palace in Mexico.
