Evening brides-to-be! Hopefully your wedding plans are coming along nicely. It’s not long until the Spring Summer 2015 issue of Getting Married in Northern Ireland, so don’t be worry if you’re needing some extra help, it’s on its way!
We’ve been very excited to share this sugar sweet wedding day with you all, which was captured by Paula O’Hara Photography. Ryan and Nicola are childhood sweethearts getting together when they were 14. After being together for 13 years, Ryan planned a very memorable proposal in Florida.
“We had been lying by the pool all day when Ryan disappeared for a while to organise taxis and dinner reservations for that evening. When we arrived later that evening the waiter took us straight outside to our candlelit table overlooking the lake. After we had our meal the waiter suggested we take a walk (even though I found this a bit weird I agreed), so off we went. Once out on a pier I turned around to see Ryan down on one knee with the beautiful three stone diamond ring. I didn’t quite hear him ask me to marry him as I was so shocked but I said yes! We returned to our table with champagne already sitting on our table and deserts with congratulations. After that we went to Disneys Magic Kingdom and watched the fireworks at the castle. An amazing and special night. Ryan had designed the ring and had it made months before the holiday and he had it well hidden inside my carry on bag that I took through the airport!”
The planning was straightforward for Nicola and Ryan, they both knew what they wanted and chose the things they loved. Their summer wedding ceremony was held in St Annes Church, Dungannon where Nicola wore a strapless lace gown teamed with a full length mantilla veil. Her two bridesmaids wore elegant pale pink gowns to complement the pretty pink scheme.
“We didn’t have a particular theme, we just kept it soft and summery as I’m not really into fussy things and wanted everything plain. The order of service was made like a fan on a lolly pop stick, table names where all destinations we have visited over the years and the names were put in to jars of sand and set on the tables along with the Jägermeister favours (donated by a bridesmaid and enjoyed by everyone)!”
“The day went brilliantly, just far too quickly! There are a few moments that stand out; before I walked into the church as I stood outside with Rev Foster and the Bridesmaids, a car drove past and a man yelled out “don’t do it” and everyone just burst out laughing! Needless to say the wedding went ahead. Another funny moment was when Ryan and I were standing with Paula getting photos taken on the golf course of Slieve Russell. Ryan’s mobile rang and it was someone looking to buy a car, he answered and dealt with the man while Paula and I just stand waiting!”
