A Wistful and Joyous Journey
“To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.”
David Viscott
Jemma Maclaine, a 29-year-old optometrist from County Tyrone, and Christian Davis, a 31-year-old consultant from London, first crossed paths on a balmy summer evening at a pub in Kent. What started as a casual encounter quickly blossomed into a deep and enduring connection. After six wonderful years together, Christian knew it was time to make Jemma his forever. Following a delightful facial, he led her to a picturesque spot under a tree by the rose garden in Hyde Park, where he proposed with a stunning yellow gold trilogy ring from Lunns Jewellers. The answer, of course, was a resounding yes.
Choosing the perfect wedding dress is a rite of passage for many brides, and for Jemma, it was an exhilarating and special experience. After trying on dresses at bridal shows in Northern Ireland and London, she stumbled upon a style she adored online from Whistles, a high street clothing brand she loved. One Sunday, she visited their flagship store in London, and as soon as she tried on the dress, she knew it was “the one.” Sharing this moment with her mother made it all the more memorable.
Jemma’s bridal party consisted of two beautiful bridesmaids, Amanda and Cliodhna, friends from school and university, respectively. They chose their dresses from Ghost, a brand known for its elegant and stylish designs. On the groom’s side, Christian was accompanied by his long-term school friends, Henry and Steven, dressed impeccably in McCann Bespoke London suits.
For Jemma and Christian, the best part of wedding planning was the quality time spent with family and friends. From picking out the dress and flowers to hunting for the perfect venue, these moments were filled with joy and excitement. However, the logistics of organising a wedding in rural Northern Ireland while living in London proved to be a bit stressful. Yet, their love and determination saw them through every challenge.
Jemma and Christian chose the picturesque Lough Erne Resort for both their ceremony and reception on the 27th of May, 2024. With 130 guests in attendance, the day was a celebration of love, surrounded by breathtaking views and a serene ambiance. Opting for a theme that emphasized comfort and authenticity, they ensured that every detail reflected their personalities and preferences making it the wedding day of their dreams and more.
The couple’s wedding was filled with special features, including a boat tour on Lough Erne, golf at the resort, and a delightful dinner in the members’ lounge the night before. This allowed guests who had travelled from afar to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
A funny incident that added a touch of humour to the day was when Jemma accidentally spilled an entire bowl of red pepper soup on her dress. Thanks to the quick thinking and efforts of the resort staff, her mother, and bridesmaids, the dress was saved, and the mishap became a cherished memory.
For Jemma and Christian, the highlight of their wedding day was seeing all their loved ones gathered to celebrate their love. The support and happiness radiating from their guests made them feel incredibly special. Their first dance was to “Runaway” by The Corrs, a moment of pure romance. Later in the night, they had a fun and energetic dance to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” with Jemma lifted on shoulders, adding a playful touch to the evening.
Jemma’s words of wisdom to other couples planning their wedding is to relax and enjoy the process. She emphasizes not getting caught up in minor details and to involve family and friends in the planning. Cherish every moment, as it all contributes to the magic of the day.
The couple enjoyed on a mini-moon to Westport, County Mayo, with plans for a more extended honeymoon in Tahiti in 2025. Married life has been a blissful and busy time for them, filled with celebrations as many of their close friends are also tying the knot. Jemma and Christian are deeply grateful for the love and effort everyone put into making their day unforgettable.
Jemma and Christian’s wedding was a perfect blend of romance and fun, a beautiful beginning to their forever, their story reminds us that love is the most extraordinary adventure of all.
