A Gold & Classy Celebration
For childhood sweethearts-turned-soulmates, EmmaRose Callaghan and Sean Mullan, their wedding day was more than just a celebration of love — it was the perfect culmination of nearly a decade together, filled with laughter, adventure, and shared dreams.
The couple, who first crossed paths on a festive night out during the “12 Pubs of Christmas” in Buncrana back in 2015, have been inseparablea ever since. “We didn’t realise we had mutual friends,” recalls EmmaRose, “but from that night on, we haven’t been apart.”
The Proposal on the Slopes
In February 2023, Sean orchestrated a breathtaking proposal during their annual ski trip to Austria. At the summit of Zell am See, surrounded by snowy peaks, he asked EmmaRose to be his forever. With a bottle of Moët smuggled up the mountain (courtesy of her dad), the moment was as perfectly planned as it was unforgettable. “I had no idea it was coming,” says the bride, “and it was so special knowing our families were waiting eagerly for the good news back home.”
The stunning trilogy diamond engagement ring, chosen by Sean and his mum at Lunn’s Jewellers in Derry, remains one of EmmaRose’s most treasured possessions.
Saying “Yes” to the Dress
Working in the wedding industry herself, EmmaRose had a clear vision of elegance for her big day. She discovered her dream gown — a sophisticated design by Australian label Blanche Bridal — at Victoria Lou Bridal in Northamptonshire. “As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one,” she beams. Paired with a dramatic mikado overskirt for a two-in-one look, the dress set the tone for the bride’s effortlessly stylish celebration.
Her four bridesmaids, including her sister Aisling and three cousins, wore Miabella Martini gowns in Peony Pink with ivory bows from Ultimate Dresses in Claudy — the perfect soft contrast to the elegant gold tones woven throughout the day.
Sean and his groomsmen looked equally dashing in Esquire Formal Wear tuxedos, with Sean opting for a black velvet jacket to stand out as groom.
A Donegal Love Story
On Saturday, 23rd August 2025, EmmaRose and Sean wed at St. Aengus’ Church in Burt, Co. Donegal, with 270 loved ones gathered to witness their vows. The reception followed at the An Grianan Hotel, a venue particularly close to EmmaRose’s heart, as she works there as Operations Manager.
The theme was “Gold & Classy” with hints of soft pink, combining timeless elegance with a warm Irish welcome. Handmade floral centrepieces crafted by the bride and her mum adorned the tables, while each table carried a traditional Irish name and proverb, weaving heritage into the décor. Guests were also greeted by a striking freestanding antique mirror adorned with gold decal as the seating plan, reflecting the couple’s eye for style.
Joy, Laughter & a Few Giggles
Though meticulously planned, the day wasn’t without its lighthearted moments. During the ceremony, chief bridesmaid Aisling had her work cut out managing the bride’s train, much to the amusement of the guests. “It became a running joke throughout the day,” EmmaRose laughs, “but Aisling did an incredible job!”
One of the most poignant moments for Sean was watching his bride walk up the aisle. “I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to turn around, but the priest told me to. When I saw her smiling with her dad, it was the best part of the day — a moment I’ll never forget.”
For EmmaRose, the highlight came as they entered the reception to cheers and song. “Walking into the room as everyone clapped, sang, and cheered was overwhelming — the love and warmth from our family and friends brought a tear to my eye.”
Celebrations with a Personal Touch
Rather than grand extras, the couple chose thoughtful touches to make their day unique. Guests received local mini bottles of Muff Liquor Gin and Crolly Distillery Whiskey as favours, each tagged with the couple’s wedding logo and the toast: “A toast to love, laughter & happily ever after… Sláinte.”
Their first dance was to Chris Stapleton’s “Joy of My Life”, a song that captured their journey and love story perfectly.
Advice from the Newlyweds
Reflecting on their wedding, the couple insist they wouldn’t change a thing. Their advice to other couples? “Don’t sweat the small stuff and trust your suppliers. Do as much as you can in advance, then step back and enjoy the build-up. The week before your wedding should be about soaking in the excitement.”
Happily Ever After
After taking some quiet time together post-wedding, the couple are looking forward to a mini-moon in Sorrento this September, with bigger travel plans for 2026.
And as for married life? “It feels much the same,” smiles EmmaRose, “but just that little bit more special.”
