Eternal Love in Co. Donegal
“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” – Aristotle
Nestled in the scenic beauty of Co. Donegal, a love story that began twelve years ago blossomed into a stunning wedding celebration. Emma Campbell, a dedicated children’s nurse, and Gabriel Doherty, a hardworking excavator, have a romance that epitomizes timeless elegance and deep connection. Their journey from teenage sweethearts to husband and wife is one that inspires and captivates.
Emma and Gabriel first met on a night out when they were just eighteen. Their connection was immediate, and over the years, their bond only grew stronger.
On 6th January 2023, during a magical trip to New York City, Gabriel proposed in Central Park. With a twinkle in his eye and a ring in his hand, he captured the moment with a timer on his phone, ensuring their joy will be remembered for a long time to come .
The engagement ring is a masterpiece: a single stone round diamond, complemented by smaller diamonds embedded into the band. Gabriel, with his keen sense of detail, had the ring designed by Armans Jewellers in Sydney, waiting patiently for the right moment to propose.
The journey to finding the perfect wedding dress was a memorable adventure. Emma’s mother and sister flew in from Ireland, and together, they explored Sydney’s exquisite bridal shops. Emma had her heart set on a Pallas Couture dress she had admired long before her engagement. It felt like destiny when a similar design was released in 2023. With the addition of a detachable skirt, Emma achieved a versatile two-look style for her special day.
Emma was accompanied by sister Sharon, best friends since school Paula and Rosie, Sydney roommate Noeleen, along with Katelyn Gabriel’s sister. Their dresses were equally stunning, with custom designs that included a low back and swooping neckline. The flower girl’s dress was a charming piece from Next. Gabriel and his groomsmen donned tuxedos rented from Black Tie Show Room in Derry, presenting a picture of timeless sophistication. Gabriel was supported by brother Darren, cousin’s Michael and Patrick, best friend Nial and Emma’s brother Peter.
On 6th April 2024, Emma and Gabriel exchanged their vows at St. Anegus Church in Burt. Despite an orange weather warning for wind, their love shone brightly, illuminating the church filled with baby’s breath and lush greens. The reception at An Grainan was a grand affair, with 270 guests celebrating the couple’s love amidst a sea of gold and green decor.
Special touches like a cocktail cart serving espresso martinis after dinner and a memorable first dance—starting with Cody Johnson’s “Painter” before transitioning into the iconic Friends theme tune—made the day uniquely theirs. A minor incident involving a window falling in due to the wind added a touch of humour and a story to be told for years to come.
For both Emma and Gabriel, the ceremony was the highlight of their day. The sight of each other in the church, surrounded by loved ones, was a moment of pure joy. Emma cherished her relaxing and chilled morning, which set the perfect tone for the day ahead.
Looking back, the couple wouldn’t change much, though Emma mentioned she might skip a day two in favour of an intimate dinner with the bridal party. Their advice to other couples “Practice photo poses, and have the conversation with the photographer about the kind off photos you want. Go on a honeymoon straight away, we didn’t go straight away because we couldn’t take any longer off work but feel like we missed out on that newly-wed bubble” something they look forward to doing in November when they plan to explore South America.
As they settle into married life, Emma and Gabriel find joy in their shared journey. Their wedding was not just a celebration of their love but a testament to the strength and beauty of their relationship. From a chance meeting at eighteen to a breathtaking wedding day, their story is one of love, commitment, and timeless romance.
