From Facebook to Forever: A Stylish Celebration at Galgorm
When Angeleine McKenna sent a spontaneous friend request on Facebook to a man she didn’t know—but felt she might just like—she had no idea it would lead to a love story worthy of a fairytale. But Darren Campbell accepted the request, and a few voice notes and cocktails later, their relationship began. Fast-forward two and a half years, and the couple said “I do” in a dream ceremony at Galgorm’s enchanting Phantom House, surrounded by their children, closest friends, and 115 guests who all agreed—it was the best wedding ever.
A Facebook Beginning and a Fairytale Proposal
Angeleine, a 38-year-old salon owner from Coalisland, first came across Darren, 40, an NHS Assistant Director from Larne, through Facebook’s “People You May Know” feature. Intrigued, she sent the request—and fate stepped in.
Darren’s proposal, just before Christmas, was a masterclass in romance. While Angeleine believed they were celebrating her birthday with a festive break at the Galgorm, Darren had something much bigger in mind. Returning from the spa, she stepped into a room transformed by rose petals, flickering candles, and two swans folded into the shape of a heart. Her dream ring—a gold band with a single diamond from Ellisons Jewellers—sat beneath a message spelled out in petals: “Will you marry me?” Darren knelt behind her, ready to begin their next chapter.
Dress Dreams and Planning Perfection
The dress was a simple choice. “It was the second one I tried on,” says Angeleine, who found her perfect gown at Forever Bridal in Belfast. The real joy, she shares, was spending the day with her sisters, dress shopping and dining together.
Her only bridesmaid was her identical twin sister Jennifer Parker, who wore a bespoke gown by local designer Una Rodden. Darren and his groomsmen turned to Freddy Hatchet in Belfast for their sharp suits. And in a fun twist, Darren appointed two best men—Mark Todd and Iain Harris (his longtime school and university friends)—alongside another groomsman also named Iain Harris, and his brother Kalven.
Family remained at the heart of the day, with Angeleine’s children playing starring roles: Jimmy (6) was a page boy, proudly pulling baby Oliver (1) down the aisle in a little cart, while flower girl Annabel (8) scattered petals in front of her mum.
Galgorm Glamour and Heartfelt Highlights
On August 11th, 2024, the couple exchanged vows in the romantic, candle-lit Phantom House before celebrating in the Renaissance Suite at Galgorm. The venue—renowned for its luxury and charm—made planning a breeze. “The whole process was so easy,” Angeleine says. “We loved picking our music and going to the wedding showcase—it helped us visualise the entire day.”
While they didn’t choose a specific theme, the day was filled with unique touches. Belfast busker John Garrity sang Angeleine down the aisle, his voice giving everyone goosebumps. A singing waiter from Cameoflage surprised guests post-dinner, bringing high energy and huge smiles. Meanwhile, a caricaturist from Inkwell was a massive hit—especially with the children, who formed their own queue long before the adults could get a turn.
Emotional Moments and a Dance to Remember
For Angeleine, the highlight came as she stepped into the aisle. “Seeing all my family and friends smiling—and crying—and seeing Darren waiting for me at the top… I’ll never forget that moment,” she says.
Darren agrees, but also loved giving his wedding speech. “It was really meaningful to thank everyone who had been part of our journey,” he says. Their first dance was to an acoustic version of Dermot Kennedy’s Kiss Me—a fitting tribute to the artist they had seen live across the UK while dating.
From Planning Spreadsheets to a Honeymoon in Mykonos
Despite best efforts, the couple admits they didn’t quite stick to their budget—but have no regrets. “Everything adds up, but it was worth it,” Angeleine laughs. Her advice to other couples? “Keep a spreadsheet!” Darren’s colour-coded planning system proved essential, helping them stay on track and minimise stress as the day approached.
After the wedding, they revisited London—a meaningful city from their early relationship—before jetting off to Mykonos for sun, sea, and serenity.
Married Life
So, how is life now for the newlyweds? “It’s much the same,” Angeleine smiles. “Still perfect.”
