Good evening brides-to-be! How are your wedding plans coming along this week, anything exciting planned for the weekend?
Our gorgeous bride today, Amy-Beth chose a Downtown Abbey theme for her January wedding to Aquinas. They were married in her local parish, St.Trea’s Chapel, and held their reception at Manor House Country Hotel in Kiladeas. The day was captured by Wild Daisy Art Photography.
After getting engaged on 12th December 2012, (at 12.12am!) Amy-Beth and Aquinas decided to wait until she was finished her PGCE studies to begin their wedding plans.
With her studies over and her first teaching post secured, the couple began planning at the start of 2014 and soon decided on a winter wedding. “I always wanted something very elegant and sophisticated and had Downton Abbey in my head throughout the planning process. I loved the 1920s era, but I felt that the Great Gatsby wedding theme had been so popular recently. Downton Abbey was the perfect alternative, I was even able to purchase replica jewellery used from the set of the show. In terms of colours navy was my first choice as I felt it was sophisticated, refined and added warmth. I also included blush pink to add a pop of colour along the way,” explained Amy-Beth.
“My mum was very hands on during the planning and designed the stationery which had silhouettes of our faces and looked so unique. My mum jokes that I could have got married twice. As I had purchased two of almost everything. I had originally bought 3 bridesmaids dresses from Coast. They were on sale and at the time I was trying to pinch my pennies. However, I decided they weren’t elegant enough and I found thee most perfect dresses on the Dessy Group website. Luckily, Perfect Day in Lurgan stocked this dress and I was able to order three dresses in colours I needed,” added Amy-Beth.
“Our day was perfect, apart from a slight mishap with the dress which ended in me being sewn into it by my brother-in-laws mother! Other than that the day was incredible. The rain held off and it was a crisp, dry day. My highlight was seeing how emotional Aquinas got when I walked down the aisle. I always asked him if he thought he would cry and his response was “Why would I? I will be happy”. But when he turned around and saw me he put his head in his hands and cried. He could never imagine me in a wedding dress and when he saw me he couldn’t believe his eyes,” she said.
Couples Advice
Our advice would be to take a minute to just look out over the dining room and realise that all of the guests are here for your wedding. The whole day was like a dream. At one point, we both looked at each other and said “we just got married”. It was such an amazing realisation. All the planning and all the worrying was worth it. And, knowing that your nearest and dearest were there to share it with you made it even more fantastic.
