One of Derry’s most recognisable landmarks could be the perfect setting for the best day of your life. From its sweeping Grand Staircase to its stunning Main Hall, the Guildhall offers ornate and historic surroundings in the heart of the Maiden City. Whether you’re planning an intimate marriage or civil partnership followed by dinner, a big white wedding or a pull out all the stops evening reception, the Guildhall has something to suit every style and budget. As the city’s civic and social hub since the 1800s, the Guildhall’s rooms are steeped in history: you can choose from the Main Hall, with its majestic organ and intricate stained-glass windows; the Meeting Room, a former Mayor’s Parlour and the Whittaker Suite, bedecked in wood panels and painted portraits.
Built in 1887 by the Honourable the Irish Society on land reclaimed from the River Foyle, the Guildhall is the home of the Derry City and Strabane District Council Chamber and the Mayor of Derry and Strabane’s Parlour which has hosted dignitaries from across the world including former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton. The Guildhall Clock was designed as a replica of ‘Big Ben’ in London and is the largest of its kind in Ireland. The landmark today boasts 23 beautiful stained glass windows – one of the largest collections of stained glass in Ireland. A major £9.5m restoration of the building was completed in 2013 which included major refurbishment of the building and the development of visitor areas and interpretation. For memories to cherish forever on your big day, say ‘Yes’ to the Guildhall and let us take care of the rest.
