You’re engaged and the world knows about it, everyone is delighted but now you’ve realised you actually have a wedding to plan! For some it will be a walk in the park, for others working towards that end goal can be very daunting. To ensure you get your wedding planning off to the best possible start we’ve got a quick six step guide to prepping for your Big Day.
1. Set Your date: Sounds simple but remember to take in account factors such as public holidays, especially if you have guests travelling from overseas.
2. Decide on the number of guests and draw up a first draft guest list. Make sure you ask your parents how many of their friends or family they want to invite. Going forward this total number will be essential when you visit venues and have to discuss price per head etc.
3. Set your budget, not fun but essential. Chat to your fiancé, work out where the money is going to come from – will you be saving, will your parents be contributing? Always remember to be realistic, there’s no point making a budget if you’re not going to let it guide your decisions.
4. Choose your ceremony and reception locations and book. Finding the perfect venue is an entire blog post all on its own (alternatively, check out the current issue of GMINI and you’ll find our extensive venue feature), but do be sure to have all quotations in writing and make sure you are completely happy with everything before you sign on the dotted line.
5. Choose your bridal party. Don’t go jumping into promises in reality you can’t keep, your true friends will understand if you don’t immediately ask them to be your bridesmaids the moment you announce your engagement!
