A Historic Heart with Modern Service
As the city’s civic and social hub since the 1800s, the Guildhall is steeped in heritage. Built in 1887 by The Honourable The Irish Society on land reclaimed from the River Foyle, it remains a cultural icon. The landmark features 23 exquisite stained‑glass windows, one of the largest collections in Ireland, and a clock tower designed as a replica of London’s famous “Big Ben.”
A major £9.5m restoration completed in 2013 lovingly revitalised the building, enhancing its architectural beauty while adding high‑quality visitor facilities, modern conveniences, and improved accessibility throughout.
