Despite a bit of a near disaster, Carrie and Stephen Creaney have been happily married since April 2018, and loving married life. The couple met twelve years previously when Carrie was just 14, but they didn’t couple up until she was 24. And they made up for lost time, marrying just two years later. In fact, they also planned their wedding in just 13 months.
Stephen, the Director of Shapeshifter Nutrition in Lurgan, organised a photoshoot for the pair in Paris in March 2017, and it was during this that he popped the question – with every moment captured on camera. With a short timeframe to get organised Carrie had a specific look she wanted to have in her dress when she headed to Divinity Bridal in Lisburn. “I knew what I wanted in my head so just kept trying on dresses until I found it, but I actually found the experience challenging, as what I thought I wanted at the start and what I ended up picking where totally different.” Her sleek column gown had simple beaded straps, with extra beading at the waist, completed with a low back and covered buttons. She mirrored this look in the blush coloured bridesmaid dresses from Katriona’s, Banbridge, which also had beading around the waist. Her sister Faith, and her friends Vicky and Lauren also had classic up-do hairstyles to complement her classic look.
Stephen and his groomsmen were kitted out at Hire Class in Banbridge in classic three piece grey suits with blush toned buttonholes keeping in tone with the beautiful bouquets from Vintage Violet in Markethill. Eighty guests helped the couple celebrate their wedding day in glorious sunshine but as Carrie approached the Emmanuel Church in Lurgan the couple realised they didn’t have the marriage register to get married. “We realised two minutes before the Civic Centre closed. I had to sit in the wedding cars outside our local Tesco while Stephen rushed from the top of the aisle to go get the papers!”
But all’s well that ends well, as the newly married Mr and Mrs Creaney then travelled to the stunning Leighinmohr House Hotel in Ballymena for their reception, where their room was styled by Lilac Elan in Lurgan. The pair enjoyed a reception with their nearest and dearest, and despite going slightly over budget, the couple loved every second of their day.
“I couldn’t fault it. Watching everyone have a fantastic day was great.”
They also partied into the early hours, with The Profssionals providing the entertainment, including the first dance, to ‘The One’ by Kodaline.
However, Carrie admits she did find the organizing quite stressful. “Leave yourself more time than we did, planning a wedding within one year from engagement was hard!” But they are finding married life, after a honeymoon in Dubai, ‘Fantastic’. “I couldn’t think of anything I would rather be doing than spending my days with my husband.”
